Digital Nomad Visa

Portugal has long welcomed international residents through various visa programs. While the Golden Visa was once a popular route, its discontinuation has led many to explore alternative options for making Portugal their home. One excellent choice, particularly for remote workers, is the Digital Nomad Visa.

Who Can Apply for the Digital Nomad Visa?

This visa is available exclusively to non-EU and non-EEA citizens, making it an ideal option for UK nationals following Brexit. To qualify, applicants must:

  • Earn a minimum of €2,800 per month
  • Have received this income for at least three months prior to applying
  • Be employed by a non-Portuguese company or be self-employed

Temporary Stay vs. Residence Visa

Eligible applicants can choose between:

  1. Temporary Stay Visa – Valid for one year with the option to renew. It allows full travel flexibility, meaning you can enter and leave Portugal freely. Additionally, you may work as a freelancer in Portugal during this period.

  2. Residence Visa – Grants a long-term stay in Portugal. To apply, you must provide:

    • Proof of employment (e.g., work contract)
    • A Portuguese NIF (tax number)
    • Proof of tax residence
    • Recent payslips

With Portugal's fantastic quality of life, excellent climate, and thriving expat community, the Digital Nomad Visa offers a seamless way for remote workers to make Portugal their home.
